Home from Home Apartment in Dublin
The ‘Home from Home’ Self Catering Apartment is located in MDI House and National Resource Centre in Chapelizod, Dublin 20. It is a self contained fully wheelchair accessible apartment which is available for short term stays for people with a physical disability. The apartment consists of 4 bedrooms, a kitchen and a lounge area. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the apartment.
The first floor of our premises in Chapelizod consists of a self contained fully wheelchair accessible apartment which is available for short term respite breaks for MDI members and people with mobility difficulties. The purpose is to provide accommodation to MDI members and their families from outside Dublin who need to attend a clinic or hospital appointment, to visit members in hospital, etc. or simply require a short respite break.
MDI’s “Home from Home” self catering apartments as it is known, consists of a four bedroom self catering apartment. Three of the four bedrooms have ceiling track hoists and two are en-suite. There is also a fully equipped kitchen and a lounge area.
The “Home from Home” Apartment is a self catering facility. The kitchen is stocked with the following equipment:
Blender & liquidiser, clothes horse, cutlery & crockery, electric double steamer, electric oven / hob, electric kettle, fridge–freezer, iron & ironing board, microwave, pots & pans, sandwich maker, toaster, tumbler dryer, washing machine
On arrival, the kitchen will be stocked with milk, sugar, tea, coffee, salt & pepper.
Bed linen is provided in each bedroom (sheets, duvet& pillows). All beds are hi-lo profile beds. Bedrooms 1, 2 & 3 & all bathrooms are equipped with ceiling track hoists.
The Accommodation
Kitchen
The kitchen is equipped with an adjustable motorised worktop which enables the work surface height to be adapted to a suitable level for all users. It contains all modern appliances including a kettle, toaster, sandwich maker, microwave, blender, electric oven and hob, fridge-freezer, washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. Milk, sugar, tea, coffee, salt & pepper are also provided.
Lounge Area
The lounge area has 2 sofas and a multi channel television and DVD player .
Bedrooms 1 and 3
Each of these rooms contain two Hi-Lo electric single beds and a ceiling track hoist. Both rooms are en-suite and the bathroom and shower can be accessed directly by using inter-linked ceiling track hoists. Bedroom 1 also contains a sofa-bed. And Bedroom 3 also has an adjoining standard single room.
Bedroom 2
This bedroom is complete with a king sized Hi-Lo electric bed and a ceiling track hoist.The room is not en-suite however, there is a fully wheelchair accessible shower and bathroom across the hallway from this bedroom, which can be accessed directly by using inter-linked ceiling track hoists. Bedrooms 1, 2 and 3 all contain a television and DVD player.
Bedroom 4
This is an un-adapted single bedroom suitable for a PA or family member. There is an interconnecting door between this room and Bedroom 3.
Please note: Bed linen (sheets, duvet & pillows) is provided in each bedroom, however we do not provide towels.

Important / Please Note:
Members are advised to bring their own slings. However, please note that the twixie clip slings do not work on our hoist system. MDI will have slings available, please advise in advance if you need to book one.
Transport Visitors to the apartment also have the option to avail of our transport hire facility. Please ask for more details when booking.
Rates MDI requests a donation of €25 per room per night for the use of the apartment. Please note that if you only book one room, the other rooms may be occupied by other guests during your stay.
