South West - Devon - Dawlish
A Place for Everybody
The bungalow is within walking distance of Dawlish and has spectacular, uninterrupted sea views. These can be enjoyed from the lounge/conservatory, or from the large paved terrace. One of the spacious bedrooms has an en-suite shower room, and there is an easily accessible ‘wheel in’ wet room which serves the rest of the property. The bungalow has level access to all areas, and there are various items of mobility equipment for use (please ask them for details).
The bungalow is set back on the Exeter Road between Dawlish and Dawlish Warren. There is ample parking for two large vehicles, and additional parking in the public lay-by just yards away. The property has a reasonably sized porch, large enough for a wheelchair, and hanging space for coats. The porch opens onto a spacious hallway via a sliding door, which leads to the rest of the bungalow. The first bedroom on your left has bunk beds, with two full size single mattresses. Opposite is a twin room which contains the hospital bed and the ceiling-track hoist. The spacious wet room has non-slip flooring. The hallway then narrows and a further en-suite double bedroom leads off. The kitchen is also accessed from this hallway, and eventually the hallway opens into a large lounge/conservatory. These two rooms can be either opened up as one room or closed off in the winter, when you might want to have a cosy night around the log burning stove; you may even wish to use the lounge as a 4th bedroom. There is comfortable seating for up to 8 guests, and further dining facilities also for 8. There is a large terrace with panoramic views, and various items of garden furniture for use by guests.

Reviews for Ablestay House, London
Name: Sarah
Date of visit: 09/22
We had a fantastic short break at Ablestay in London. Everything we needed for our disabled daughter was provided. There is a hoist from the 2 profiling beds to the bathroom which has multiple bathing options. There is also a portable hoist if needed. Ablestay caters for all different levels of disability. It has an accessable designer kitchen, washing machine, blender and an adjustable comfy chair. All this and its in London. I can't recommend Ablestay enough.
Name: Liz
Date of visit: 09/22
Great place. Loved all the facilities, a home from home with no need to pack the kitchen sink. Unbelievable to have the hoists, specialist bath, walk in shower, toilet and profile beds. Oh, and the blender. Spacious, fab decor and great location for station.

Why is there no shower commode chair available as it is not possible to get a person that is unable to stand or walk on to the Clos O Mat toilet. The old one you do have does not have a bucket and only has a 16 inch width seat which is not wide enough for the average wheelchair user.We were unable to make a booking this because of this.

Reviews of Clober Farm
Elizabeth “I used Clober Farm for an overnight stay when travelling down from Dundee to a Rugby match at Scotstoun. It was an absolutely fantastic experience and my only regret was not booking a few more days so as to really enjoy the house! It’s so reasonably priced compared to a hotel or B&B, and you know exactly what you’re getting; there’s no worry about which definition of ’accessible’ has been used when describing the facilities, everything has been thought about with contemporary, independent living at its core.”

Scotland - Scottish Borders - Melrose
Eildon Holiday Cottages
Eildon Holiday Cottages are located at the foot of the majestic Eildon Hills in Melrose with stunning views over the Tweed valley and the beautiful Scottish Borders Countryside. As well as the inspiring Scottish landscapes the Scottish Borders has so much to offer visitors to the region including a long list of castles and historic buildings and an interesting mix of events going on such as the Melrose rugby 7s and the Borders Book Festival. Melrose is located approximately 35 miles south of Edinburgh and there is a direct train line in to the city centre which takes just under an hour and is wheelchair accessible.
Our six holiday cottages, ranging from one to three bedrooms, were originally designed from the realisation that it was impossible for families with disabled and severely disabled members to find any suitable self-catering holiday accommodation with facilities for all the family to take a holiday together. The strength of the complex is that able-bodied and disabled visitors can holiday together without differentiation. Disabled people can holiday alone (independent wheelchair user), with family, or with professional carers living in the cottage to provide the necessary support.
Our wheelchair accessible cottages are graded Category 1 – the best possible Tourist Board grading for wheelchair accessibility.
Two Cottages have optional ceiling tracking hoists - Langrig has a Spectra hoist that tracks from the bedroom into a wet-room shower and Single Tree Cottage has a Freeway hoist that tracks from the bedroom into a bathroom with a large bathtub with over-bath shower. Portable hoists are also available and can be used in all of the holiday cottages.
All have at least one bedroom on the ground floor level, with either a bathroom or wet-room shower room. There are grab rails in bath and shower rooms and let-down rails beside WCs. There is ample space for side-loading to WCs.
Electric profiling beds, pressure relieving mattress systems, shower chairs and a range of other equipment is available for guests to use.

This is a brilliant place. It has all the equipment you could want and so much space! We had a family gathering of 15 and comfortably sat around the humongous table. A warm and stylish bungalow. The wifi is fast too. We plan to go again.
Another bonus is that it is next to the watercress train line so every now and again a lovely locomotive chuffs by the kitchen window. A great location for travelling around the South.
Fantastic central location and good pies in the local pubs!

This place is amazing. Very spacious, clean with absolutely everything we needed. We rely on ceiling hoists to move my adult daughter from wheelchair to bed to reclining chair and were not disappointed.
The whole bungalow is beautifully furnished and very homely. A beautiful area with stunning views, very peaceful.
Truly outstanding- Details

Garden Bench
Garden Bench is a fully accessible detached self catering cottage, on the outskirts of Lymington, surrounded by the New Forest National Park. This 1920's style bungalow has been completely renovated to offer purpose built self catering accommodation - it offers ground floor accommodation with level access throughout with its own private drive and secure rear garden with large paved patio area.
Garden Bench has a ceiling hoist in the master bedroom over a height adjustable profiling bed, with an additional head and foot riser bed making this a lovely large twin room with plenty of access and turning space. There is a purpose built wet room next door with wheel in shower, height adjustable sink and WC – with space for right and left transfer. The second bedroom – sleeps three and can be a family run with three twin beds or have a king size double bed and separate twin. The lounge has a riser recliner chair – popular with our guests, 2 two seater sofas and a wood burning stove. The kitchen/dining area is spacious and has room for a wheelchair user with split level surfaces.
It is the ideal location for a quiet relaxing holiday - being fully detached, you can enjoy a BBQ on the patio in the sunshine without worrying about being overlooked in the private garden or you can curl up in the lounge and take time to unwind with a flat screen television, free wifi and the watch the flames flicker from the wood burning stove.
Garden Bench sleeps up to 5 guests. More photos, a 360 tour and an access statement is available on our web site – along with online booking and details of additional mobility equipment that can be provided free of charge – wheel in shower chair, shower stool, manual wheelchair etc.
Garden Bench is an ideal base for the New Forest, Hampshire and Dorset. Enjoy day trips to the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Southampton, Salisbury, Bournemouth and Winchester. There are lots of places to visit nearby from theme parks to ornamental gardens, crazy golf to museums, we have included suggestions on our web site.

This is a lovely place to stay. Very clean and all the staff couldn’t be more helpful if there is anything you need. Very good disabled accommodation, good size bedroom, massive wetroom and good size doorways. There is level access to and from the accommodation and over the whole site. Hoist is an H frame which runs from bedroom in to the bathroom which made it incredibly easy to use. We only found one problem, which was the full profile bed was a divan style. The problem was very quickly resolved by the staff. They had some blocks specifically to help raise the bed off the floor, so you could get close enough to the bed for dressing, turning, manual handling, the person requiring it. All in all we had a fantastic time and would 100% recommend Gwel an Mor.

Wales - Pembrokeshire
Hampton Court Holiday Park, Pembrokeshire
Hampton Court Holiday Park is a small friendly family run holiday park set in the heart of the beautiful area of Pembrokeshire and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park in West Wales.
The Park itself is about six miles from the harbour town of Saundersfoot and about 3 miles from the market town of Narberth whilst the Pembrokeshire county town of Haverfordwest is thirteen miles. So we are conveniently located to explore the area and take in the various views whether you wish to do so by wheelchair on one of the ever increasing accessible footways or simply enjoying some fish and chips in your car on the harbour front at Saundersfoot whilst watching the boats come in with the tide.
The park is owned and run by us the Russ family. We live on the park with our children one of whom is profoundly disabled and a wheelchair user and it is this reason we decided to start catering for the disabled holiday market. We realised that as our son gets older and bigger it has become very difficult if not impossible to find truly accessible accommodation to go on holiday in and most importantly that there do not appear to be many places offering the facilities my family and I need in a “normal and inclusive setting”.
We decided we were in a unique position to try and do something about this and so designed the log cabin we are currently offering for hire as a holiday destination on a holiday park with other holiday makers but in accommodation built (not adapted) for the wheelchair user. We have equipped the cabin with a variety of things that we think will be of use to a lot of wheelchair users particularly those who require carer assisted hoisting.

Reviews for High Tide
Reviewer: Gill
Date of visit: 6/24
Excellent property. Second visit and still great. Opposite the pier and beach and 10-15 minutes walk/roll into Southwold which is quaint and shops pubs and coffee shops are largely inaccessible for wheelchair users. If the weather is fine great to sit outside.
The house is large with with lots of extras in the kitchen. The accessible bedroom is the smallest with not much room to manoeuvre. The ceiling hoist goes from over the bed across the hallway into a large wet room. Very small handbasin to allow for drop down shower table. Small area to shower in although doable in my own self propel showerchair. Their are 2 shower chairs here of the padded kind.
I definitely recommend this property.

Scotland - Fife
Homelands Trust-Fife
Homelands is located in the beautiful East Neuk (Corner) of Fife, just 10 miles from the famous University and Golfing town of St Andrews. Whilst the area is famed for its multiple challenging links golf courses there is much more than just golf; our rugged coastline features many picturesque fishing villages providing the exceptional seafood on offer in many of our award winning restaurants. The East Neuk is steeped in history; from the world famous St Andrews golfing links to Falkland Palace once home to Mary Queen of Scots and the more modern Secret Bunker which tells the story of how Britain coped with the cold war nuclear threat.
The purpose built cottages are situated on the south side of the Homeland’s estate, set in mature woodlands, and with magnificent views over Lundin golf course across the Firth of Forth to the Lothians.
The four lodges have been specially designed and built with accessibility in mind, as standard Guldmann H Frame ceiling tracking hoists are provided in all ground floor bedrooms and the large wet-room in each lodge, in addition there are pressure relief airflow of Invacare Soft form mattresses and Closomat toilets in certain lodges (see website for full details). Additionally a large range of portable specialist equipment including shower trolleys and chairs, portable hoists and stand aids can be hired free of charge, on request. Please see the website for more details on how to book these items and for the full access statements.
Sleeping between 6 and 8 people the lodges provide flexible durations starting from a 3 night minimum stay.
