I've stayed at many hotels in my life in myriad rooms ranging from Accessible to "accessible" - but have never encountered a hotel that ticks as many boxes as the Aloft Eastside in Birmingham.
The room features a ceiling track hoist with dual powered function (up/down and movement on its track) on a static, non-XY rail. The hoist track goes into the bathroom and over the toilet (the images on this site didn't appear to show that but trust me it does), and over the chair in the wetroom-style shower via a turntable.
When booking, the hotel sent me an Instagram video of the room's accessibility features (instagram.com/reel/C-r7nXsCYql/), which I found incredibly helpful as hotels' definitions of 'accessible' can obviously vary wildly.
Quite incredibly the bathroom was also fitted with a Closomat wash & dry bidet toilet. The room also had a powered height-adjustable sink and a fridge. There is also an interconnecting room. At the time of my stay the ceiling hoist accessible and interconnecting rooms were numbers 117 and 116 respectively.
The Aloft Eastside feels like the new gold standard for hoist users and has left me scrambling for more reasons to visit Birmingham. I truly hope Marriott adopts this room layout in more of their Aloft and mainline hotels.
STAY AT THIS HOTEL!
